The American Dream is my Nightmare!

The American Dream is my Nightmare!

Just something I was thinking about while hanging with “Lucky” last night. In many ways we are very similar. We both love to be the center of attention and of our worlds we tend to be the trendsetters always with one common goal of having a good time.

Now last night we chatted about how marriage changes friendships. I believe this to be very true. In some cases it changes them for the better and in others for the worse. We spoke about how friends can envy our lives and how we in return can envy theirs.

Ok let me cut to the chase here…..

I am a RENTER not a BUYER and I like it that way. Owning property has never been a major priority for me. Not because it’s not important but because it’s not important to me. Now to those who want to own and not rent great because in the long run what does that mean? I’ll always have a place to stay!

If I’m frustrated with an employment situation, I quit!
No I am not encouraging you all to go out and quit your current jobs but I know my self worth I know what I can and cannot do and I know that no matter what it will get better, oh and probably the most important part. I know what is in my savings!

I try not to envy people…I try to live through them. In life there are certain things that I am likely to never experience, for example: I probably will not have children of my own however, I have a niece who is spoiled rotten and I am fortunate enough to be a part of every step of her growing process from watching her drool all day to changing dirty diapers to listening to her sing Mariah Carey’s “We belong together” in the back seat of my car which usually sounds like “We Me Mong Mometter” (baby talk). I don’t envy parents, I respect them. For being able to do something that I may not and/or choose not to do.

I know people who are married and have kids and two or three homes that have never been outside of the country? That’s crazy to me, but for them it makes perfect sense and is that perfect plan for a family. It has become my understanding that this is “The American Dream” which is really my nightmare.

I have already jacked it up by being a gay male (wondering if you guys knew that…Also wondering if it matters to any of you) but also by breaking some major rules

I have had several one night stands
I can’t even count the threesomes
I don’t want to buy a house with a back yard (but I will come visit yours and enjoy it!)
I’m probably never going to make any babies (I say probably because I might have a wild trip like my man “Sangroncito” and make a baby over in England somewhere)

I don’t need to go on but my “American Dream” is different it involves things I think are more important.

I get to travel the world and have my show syndicated in 80 countries
I live to see a cure for AIDS and Cancer
I watch my niece walk across the stage and collect her Masters degree in Accounting Systems of course! (“Uncle, I have Ten Dawllas”)
The Boys that hang outside of The Jersey Estate (my home) continue to be FINE cuz when I get old I’m going to need somebody to smile and make me feel good.

Of course I want more and have obtained more out of life than the things listed above but my foundation will NOT be a Three Story Brownstone with at huge backyard, a wife, three sons and a dog!

What’s your “American Dream”????

I had no clue that you were a gay male. I agree with you on the married, two kid, a house and having never traveled outside of the country though. Traveling is just in my blood, so I can't see ever not doing it. I'm still lol @ We Me Mong Mometter.

We Me Mong Mometter? LOL!!

Let's see...I guess my american dream would be to be happy. By saying that to be in a successful position, a little more money in the bank, seeing a cure to HIV/AIDS and did I mention being happy?

(this list is subject to change at any time with or without notice.)

Well Foxy, my dream is somewhere in the middle. I do have my own land I would like to eventually build on (sooner than later but there's that money issue thing). I have also bee doing a lot of moving because of the employment thing. So, to have a home of my own to go back to when the jobs die out or whatever would be good enough for me while I move here and there trying to make a buck to give to the bill collectors and the good folks at Kroger and Wal-Mart. But if enough people buy my book and demand more from the publishers of the world, I'd be happy to hole up and write for my fans!

The american dream is different for us all. I look towards the dream of a Latin American, Having a career I'm happy in, Getting married, having kids and sharing my culture and being close to family. To me thats riches. I live a simple life, well only because I can't afford the extravegant one, but I learned through all that that the people in your life are more important than the stuff you have.

A few of My American Dreams...

To obtain my doctorate and find a position I am happy going to everyday in my career field.

To watch my daughter graduate high school at the least.

To travel the world.

To truely fall in love again. Even if it fails again I miss that feeling.

To be financially secure.n

And yes I want the house with the big back yard and fence (husband, extra kids, and dog, completely optional)

I dig this post. Mostly because I love that you know yourself, your desires, and you're comfortable with that.

I have several American dreams that come in different stages. One stage does want the white picket fence but at other stages, I'll want different things.

ok, i knew that you were a gay male, and no, it doesnt matter.

for real, i think you have listed the american dream anyway. i think that the apple pie, white-picket-fence-with-a-dog approach to the american dream as the only dream for everyone is WRONG anyway.

the REAL american dream is to bring into realization what is important, beneficial, and meaningful to YOU.

liked this post a lot.

All very admirable dreams :)

Since I'm living in Europe, I'd have to say that my American Dream is eventually finding my way back home. Though I'd have to give up the legal drugs and the rampant sex shops. That's *another* dream...hehe

Thanks for stopping by my blog. :) Don't be a stranger.

I don't think there is a such thing as an American dream. I think there is his dream and her dream and their dream, but to say that there is one 'American dream' doesn't seem realistic. I say this because America is too vast and diverse to lump the bulk of us into the mindset of wanting a specified list of things. There's nothing wrong with being gay because that's who you are.

My dream in this lifetime is to come into my full potential, to raise my child and live my life to the best of my abilities all while being happy. I want to do these things as gracefully as possible. I have had so much stress that it's time to learn to live life beyond the bad times.

So Foxybrown I've been rolling this American Dream thing around in my noggin all day.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's concept what it means to them as well.

If the American Dream is a house and a wife,2 kids, dog and a picket fence then my dream is already over--wife turned out to be Pothead, lost the house during a divorce, single parented for 12 years and the dog ran away. Sold my business 3 years ago.

Now I'm happily single live in a nice townhouse I just bought. Drive a nearly paid off car and after losing a few more pounds I'll be ready for whatever comes my way.

Now I can start a new American Dream this time I might just rent and not marry. haha.

My American Dream is going to be, to spend as less time in America as possible, while I travel the world, AND to have my voice heard in every home, either on your tube or radio. Done! Great Post, and last I looked it up "Gay" meant happy, and its sound like you're content being U.... (smile).

I'm with you on the traveling. I would love to have enough money where all I do is travel around the world. That's really all I want. To see new and different places.

It doesn't matter to me, but I realized you were gay last night (you mentioned being fortunate to have a great brother and boyfriend).

Anyway, you don't have to apologize for the one night stands or the threesomes or the fact that you don't want to buy a house. You are not alone in that aspect. I've had one night stands before. I haven't had a threesome . . . yet, but I've slept with women who were in relationships (only 2) which is probably worse.

As far as my American dream, if I had it my way, I'd be married with two kids and have my masters degree already. But, since that hasn't happened yet, I'll just continue to live in my crazy world.

I think it occured to me rather early that you may have been gay. That makes no difference to me when it comes to friendship or responding to blogs, however when it comes to stupid people, male or female, that makes my head hurt.

My dream is simple - to live, love, pursue, give, take, reach, obtain and from time to time, laugh like there's no tomorrow.
I think you a super wonderful Foxy, and I pray all your dreams come true.

FoxBoogie,

Hell yeah I knew...and I didn't give a fuck. Like Jigga said: "No matter where you from you are what you are playa"

My AmDre is simple:

Create. For life.

I want to make my living, mu fortune and my legacy by creating. Designing, drawing, writing, performing.

Using the God in me to bring life and light where there was none before.

Along the way I want the Wife kids and browstone that you forfeit.

I wanna see my movies on the big scree, and my cartoon on the small one.

I want to love hardr than I've ever loved before and be so totally fulfilled that I'm never distracted.

I wanna get my soul right.

I wanna post a message on your blog the day they find a cure for AIDS and celebrate with you.

I want to be self-contained, self-aware, self-sufficient and self-employed

I wanna make other peoples dreams come true.

WHO AM I said.......

OMGYG (Oh My God You're Gay), just kidding of course I knew that. See if you can figure out who I am. I too live in expensive ass California. Purchased my 3rd home in 2001, my oldest son graduate college in June of this year, my middle son graduated high school in June and is headed to college in September. Baby gurl is kicking butt and taking names in the 11th grade now with a 4.0 GPA. The house the cars, the great job is wonderful. But when I look at the gifts God has given me in my children, that for me is my American Dream. Beautiful, successful offspring who I know will make a contribution to this world and the world beyond. My American Dream is my R E A L I T Y....

God Bless the Child...

Is it wrong of me to have assumed you were gay when I saw your profile said "male" and your name was "Foxybrown"? LOL I just figured a straight guy wouldn't name himself after a female blaxploitation character? LOL Go figure.

Anyhoo... that's neither here nor there...

My American dream is to own a townhouse (can you say no yard work and community areas - I need there to be some shit that it's some OTHER person's responsibility to fix. LOL) a Range Rover, twins and my law degree hanging in a space that I lease or own. *sigh* I'm sooo far from all that right now. =)
